Data sharing
Knowledge is
meant to be shared!
Scientific data and knowledge are common goods and must be shared within an appropriate framework. BQC19 fully endorses the Wellcome Trust’s statement on sharing data and research findings related to the COVID-19 epidemic.
Once requests have been approved by the BQC19 access committee, researchers can access the data, which includes participants’ clinical/phenotypic data and the results of baseline analyses. Future enriching data from research will also be added to the BQC19 database.

RNA
BQC19 uses Globus for data transfer. Due to the large volume of data, Compute Canada’s infrastructure, accessible via its Globus interface, is used as the transfer mechanism.
After signing the Data and/or Material Transfer Agreement (D/MTA), access to approved data will be provided by the data management team via the Globus platform. Users will be able to download data from BQC19, but it is important to note that some files are large and cannot be downloaded to desktop or laptop computers. In addition, some files cannot be analyzed with standard spreadsheets such as Excel.
It should be noted that at the time of writing (May 2025), some metabolomics and proteomics (Somalogic) results are missing. These two collections will therefore be expanded during 2025.

How does Globus work?
Globus is a fast, reliable, and secure file transfer service designed specifically to meet the needs of research. The Globus user interface includes background tracking features that automate the management of file transfers between two media, whether SD4Health equipment, other sites, campus clusters, lab servers, microcomputers, or laptops.
To access files shared by BQC19, a Globus-compatible ID (Globus ID) is required. If you do not have a compatible account, creating a Globus account is quick and easy by visiting the following site:

Once access has been approved by the data management team, you will be able to transfer data between the BQC19 collection and your own collection. It is essential to create a collection on your personal computer in order to perform the download. To do so, download “Globus Connect Personal” either by following the instructions in “File Manager” on the Globus portal, or by following this link:
https://www.globus.org/globus-connect-personal
Once the collection has been created on your computer, you can begin transferring files between the BQC19 EndPoint and your computer.
Please note that some of the data files shared by BQC19 are large and cannot be transferred to a personal computer. In this case, it is recommended that you download them to a high-performance computing platform. These files are currently stored in the SD4Health infrastructure, and it is recommended that you use this platform if you need to perform analyses.
